Louisiana, Mississippi, Washington DC & Virginia August 2013

It was a fun trip visiting family in the South, then attending BYU opening football game. Not so fun when after the first quarter all had to exit stadium for lightening storm that turned into two hour delay. May have been worth it but BYU lost in the final two minutes.

Orinda, Provo & Portland packed into one week

Everyday Heroes Golf champions 2013 - #1 winning team: John, Charlie, Doug & Ralph

Honoring Everyday Heroes. Sue & Richard with firefighters.
Great week started out with the Everyday Heroes golf fundraiser at OCC benefiting OCF. A trip to Provo was sandwiched in the middle to meet up with Blalock family, then off to Portland for Lindsay & Sean special day.
Ralph (7th place in age category), Sue (21st), Gay (2nd), Chaney & Autumn ran 1st Temple to Temple 5K. We started at the Provo temple and finished at the new Provo tabernacle temple site. There is a little story behind Gay's 2nd place as there was mix up with bib/timing chips, so Gay and Autumn exchanged. It's Gay's bib & Autumn's time. We were pleased to finish well ahead of the pack.

May 2013

May has been great but away from home the whole month. Gay and I attended BYU Women's Conference with the PLC so had fantastic time being treated like queens. I was barely home a couple days to attend city council meeting, Relief Society activity and lots of other meetings before flying to Seattle to help Melissa with new baby. She called the week before urging me to come sooner as she was sure baby would arrive before me. The day after her due date and when I had already been there for three days, she began to panic the baby would be so late that I would have to leave before he arrived. Fortunately he came in time for me to spend a week helping out. Liam and I especially bonded having lots of fun throwing balls and swinging in the back yard. He was very upset when I left and wanted to fly home with me.

Variety of lillies add great color to driveway entrance.

I only had one day turnaround with barely enough time to attend city council meeting, then fly to New Orleans for nephew Darryl's wedding. It was great to spend a couple days in New Orleans doing some family history research before heading over to Mississippi. Memorial Day was gathering across street from Gay and Bert's at their camp with swimming pool, etc. The grandkids had to earn their swim privilege by digging the potatoes out of the large garden. There were a total of about 1000 pounds potatoes. The yummy part was eating fresh french fries til none could eat any more. It was nice time seeing so much family and enjoying the perfect 85 degree weather.

Blalock potato crop, about 1000 lbs after eating our weight in french fries.
